Appointment of Prof. Dr. Jörg Fahrer as University Professor (W3) for Food Chemistry and Toxicology

Prof. Dr. Jörg Fahrer from the area of study Food Chemistry and Toxicology was appointed W3 Professor. The certificate was presented by the President of RPTU, Prof. Dr. Malte Drescher, at a ceremony attended by the Vice Dean of the Department of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Georg Manolikakes.

Prof. Dr. Jörg Fahrer had previously been offered a W3 professorship for Food Chemistry and Toxicology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), which he declined. Prof. Dr. Jörg Fahrer would like to thank all his colleagues for their great support during the negotiations and is looking forward to continuing his research and teaching activities at RPTU's Department of Chemistry. Together with his team, he is investigating the influence of nutrition on the development of colorectal cancer and the mechanisms of liver toxicity triggered by environmental and dietary toxins. The focus is on cellular protective mechanisms such as DNA repair and antioxidant stress response.

Prof. Dr. Jörg Fahrer will give his inaugural lecture at the GDCh Colloquium on 30.06.2026 at 17:30 in Building 52/ Lecture Hall 207 at the Department of Chemistry.
