We would like to congratulate M.Ed. Lisa Janette von Mühlen on receiving the Kaiserslautern Chemists Alumni Award for the best Master's thesis in the field of didactics of chemistry at the Department of Chemistry 2026!

In her outstanding thesis entitled "Development and evaluation of a teaching-learning unit in the context of 'plastic waste and microplastics' to promote the interest and action competence of students - connection between interest in nature and environmental protection and action competence regarding the 'avoidance of plastic waste and microplastics'", Ms. von Mühlen combines scientific excellence with innovative practical relevance. The work convinces through a profound theoretical foundation, an excellent combination of current research literature with a precisely elaborated research desideratum as well as through clearly derived, empirically investigated questions.

It has developed a setting that can promote pupils' interest and their ability to act with regard to the avoidance of plastic waste and microplastics. At the same time, practical materials are provided to enable teachers to implement these in their lessons.

We are proud of this outstanding achievement and congratulate Ms. von Mühlen on a well-deserved award!

Sincerely. The Chairwoman of the Alumni Association of Kaiserslautern Chemists
